About Us

Temple is a dynamic church with a rich history, a meaningful "now," and an exciting future.

THEN:

In the opening pages of a little history of Temple Baptist Church are these words, “Ours is a great history, not because we are a great people, but because we have a great God. We have experienced His longsuffering through our many failures and His wisdom has been shown in His sending the right man to lead us in each step of our progress.” The truth of this simple statement can be seen in the journey of this committed body of believers since its beginnings in 1915. Organized as “Simpsonville’s Second Baptist Church,” Temple has seen its share of joys and heartaches. Throughout the years there have been seasons of renewal and revival in which many people have come to know Jesus and serve Him through His church. There have also been times in which it seemed like their world was falling apart. One such occasion happened in December of 1946 when, just months after the completion of their new church building, members watched it burn to the ground. However, even though the building had burned and fallen, their God was still in control. They received a fresh start and a new location in which to build a new building when the local textile mill donated the property on which the church is located today. Through good times and not so good times, God has proven Himself faithful.

NOW:

Temple is a vibrant; growing body of believers that reaches people in all ages and stages of life. While many churches try to categorize and classify themselves by using such terms as “traditional,” “contemporary,” “community,” or “missional,” we intend to not be so narrow in the scope of our ministry. We determine to simply and straightforwardly be the “church.” We are a multi-faceted, multi-generational, multi-ethnic body of believers that is passionately committed to Christ, His Word, and His gospel. Our purpose is clear – to reach people and develop them into fully-mature, reproducing followers of Christ. With warm, dynamic worship; practical, biblical preaching and relevant, relational ministries, there’s sure to be a place for you and your family and Temple.

Here’s what people are saying about the meaningful ministry of Temple Baptist Church:

"You Belong at Temple is more than just a slogan, it is a fact. From the very first visit, we have felt that we did belong at Temple. Dr. Brad Whitt, Staff and Congregation treated us warmly with open arms like we had been life long members. What a better place to come and worship our Savior, Jesus Christ, than at Temple Baptist. We have been truly blessed to have found our home and a place where we belong. We are grateful that God has called us to Temple Baptist."  - Rusty & Kim Spears

"Traveling to hundreds of churches in a year with my job there were only a few churches that invited me to visit. After working at Temple for a week, it was the only one that I wanted to visit. I felt that my family and I belonged @ Temple." - Travis Rodd
